Alexander Skrinsky, Soviet physicist
Alexander Nikolaevich Skrinsky (born 1936), Soviet nuclear physicist, giving a lecture at the Institute of Nuclear Physics. Skrinsky did pioneering work with particle accelerators, working on the VEP-1 in 1964 and then the VEPP-2 in 1966. The VEP-1 was the worlds first collider, while the VEPP-2 was the first electron-positron collider. Skrinsky has been Director of the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics since 1977. He is a Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His awards include the Lenin Prize (1967), the USSR State Prize (1989), the Veksler Gold Medal (1991), and the Wilson Prize (2002).
