1744 Human Pulex flea by Rosenhoff
1744 August Johann Roesel von Rosenhof copperplate art and engraving with handcolouring. From " Der monatlich-herausgekommenen Insecten-Belustigungen Erste Sammlung" (Insect Amusements) Rosenhof was a miniature painter who became fascinated by the work of Maria Sibylla Merian and decided to emulate her. His entomology artwork is among the finest of the 18th Century. Though this artwork is influenced by Hookes famous print in the Micrographia it is clear Rosenhof has made his own observations with regard colour etc
