Scapa Flow, June 1919: A Historical Moment of Defiance and Despair This evocative photograph captures the poignant and pivotal moment in history when German sailors deliberately scuttled their own fleet at Scapa Flow, rather than surrender it to the Allied forces. Scapa Flow, located in the Orkney Islands, had been the largest naval base of the British Royal Fleet during World War I.
