This iconic photograph captures the intense moment during the most celebrated boxing match of the nineteenth century between Tom Sayers and John Heenan. The prize fight, which took place on September 14, 1860, at the Oval Cricket Ground in Kennington, London, drew a record-breaking crowd of over 20,000 spectators. Tom Sayers, a popular British boxer, was known for his powerful left hook and aggressive fighting style, while John Heenan, an American heavyweight champion, was known for his defensive skills and endurance. The two fighters squared off in a highly anticipated rematch, following their previous bout in 1857, which ended in a controversial disqualification in favor of Heenan.
