EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the essence of a grand royal wedding, as Princess Marie-Louise of Schleswig-Holstein (1872-1952) exchanges vows with Prince Aribert of Anhalt (1866-1933) at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on June 15, 1891. The young princess, dressed in an elegant white gown and veil, kneels before her groom, who wears the uniform of the Anhalt Dragoons. Surrounded by the solemn atmosphere of the chapel, the couple is blessed by the Reverend Canon Edward Denison Robins, with the brides father, Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein (1842-1917), looking on approvingly. King Edward VII (1841-1910) and Queen Victoria (1819-1901) also attend the ceremony as witnesses to the union of the two noble families. The marriage between Marie-Louise and Aribert, which took place just a few years after Queen Victorias death, was later dissolved in 1906. This historic moment in royal history is beautifully preserved in this stunning image, which offers a glimpse into the opulence and tradition of a bygone era.
