EDITORS COMMENTS
On the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon's 47th birthday, the Royal Family paid a visit to the esteemed Drury Lane Theatre in London on August 4, 1947. The Queen, accompanied by her dashing future consort, His Royal Highness Prince Philip Mountbatten, left their car with a wave and a smile, eager to experience the enchanting production of "Oklahoma!" that awaited them within. The Princess Elizabeth, who would later ascend to the throne as Queen Elizabeth II, looked radiant in her elegant attire, while Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, cut a dashing figure in his military uniform. The couple's outing to the theatre marked a rare moment of respite from their royal duties, allowing them to enjoy a night of entertainment and celebration in the company of their loved ones. The visit to Drury Lane Theatre was a cherished memory for the Royal Family, as it held a special place in their history. The theatre had previously played host to several royal premieres, including the world premiere of "The School for Scandal" in 1777, which was attended by King George III and Queen Charlotte. As the Royal Family made their way into the theatre, they were met with the warm applause and admiration of the eager audience. The evening promised to be a memorable one, as the Royal Family came together to celebrate the Queen's birthday and enjoy the timeless magic of live theatre.
