Children make the most of the anchor cable as a seat in the sun at low tide. The small boat to the left of the Atlas, has the name Irene painted on the bow. The Atlas was built in 1840 in Wexford, Ireland. In 1902 she was owned by John Tregarthen Short, a coal merchant of St Ives. She was broken up in 1912. Photographer: Herbert Hughes

Captured in the golden era of Edwardian Cornwall, this print showcases the majestic schooner Atlas resting gracefully on the sandy shores of St Ives harbour in 1903. Born in Wexford, Ireland back in 1840, she found new ownership under John Tregarthen Short - an esteemed coal merchant from St Ives - by 1902. However, fate had other plans for this grand dame; she met her demise and was dismantled just ten years later in 1912.
