EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the south side of the magnificent Great Hall at Trecarrel Manor, located in Lezant, Cornwall. Although undated, this early 16th-century hall and domestic chapel were originally commissioned by Sir Henry Trecarrel. Unfortunately, construction was left unfinished in 1511. However, it is worth noting that the site had already been granted a license for a chapel back in 1405. Sir Henry Trecarrel himself played an influential role within his community as he served as mayor of Launceston not once but twice - first in 1536 and then again in 1543. His legacy lives on through this remarkable manor house turned farm. The architectural beauty of this historic manor cannot be understated. With its religious significance evident through the presence of a chapel, it stands as a testament to Cornwall's rich cultural heritage. The photographer responsible for capturing this stunning image remains unknown but their work has allowed us to appreciate the grandeur and craftsmanship that went into creating such an impressive structure. Over time, subsequent generations extended the Manor House during both the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, it serves as a listed building that continues to preserve its historical charm amidst Cornwall's picturesque landscapes. This photograph invites us to delve into history and marvel at the intricate details that make up our past architectural treasures.
