Captured in May 1998, this iconic print showcases the inauguration of Fowey's new Mayor, Anne Boosey. Standing proudly on the town quay against the picturesque backdrop of Fowey harbour, Mayor Boosey exudes grace and authority. Francis Boosey acts as Mayors Escort, adding a touch of elegance to the scene. Completing this distinguished group are John Stephens as Town Clerk and David Maddock as Mayors Chaplain and Vicar of Fowey. Their roles symbolize unity and guidance within civic affairs. The photograph captures not only their individual importance but also highlights the rich heritage associated with mayoral ceremonies. The mayor's regalia including cornish mayoral chains, red robe, bicorn hat (or tricorn hat), wig bell adds a sense of tradition and grandeur to this momentous occasion. Preserved for posterity at Royal Cornwall Museum by photographer Jonathan Barker; this image serves as a reminder that leadership comes with great responsibility but also offers opportunities for positive change within our towns and communities.
