Capturing the Timeless Beauty of Maria Asumpta, Fowey, Cornwall

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print taken in August 1993, we witness a moment frozen in time as the majestic Maria Asumpta embarks on her journey from Fowey. Leading a flotilla of classic boats, she gracefully sails through the tranquil waters of Cornwall's picturesque coastline. Maria Asumpta holds an esteemed title as the world's oldest wooden sailing boat still in operation. With a rich history dating back to her launch in Badalona, Spain, in 1858, she once served as a vital vessel for transporting textiles between Argentina and Spain. Renamed Pepita during the 1930s and Cuidad de Inca in 1953, she was lovingly restored to her original name by 1988. This stunning photograph captures not only Maria Asumpta's timeless beauty but also pays homage to the annual classic boats event organized by the Fowey Royal Regatta committee. For three consecutive years now, this gathering has celebrated these magnificent vessels that have become symbols of maritime heritage. The photographer Jonathan Barker skillfully encapsulates Cornish charm within his lens. The sailboats' elegant silhouettes against the backdrop of serene coastal scenery evoke a sense of tranquility and adventure simultaneously. This image is more than just an exquisite snapshot; it is an invitation to embark on a voyage into history and immerse oneself in the allure of traditional seafaring craftsmanship. (Note
