Three men sitting on stones at the site of the ancient village of Chysauster, New Mill, Penzance. One of the gentleman is sporting a checked knickerbocker suit. Chysauster Ancient Village is a late Iron Age and Romano-British settlement of courtyard houses which is currently in the care of English Heritage. The village included eight to ten houses, each with its own internal courtyard. To the south east of the village is the remains of a fogou, an underground structure of uncertain function. In this print from the 1920s, three men are seen sitting on stones at the historic site of Chysauster, New Mill in Penzance, Cornwall. The ancient village of Chysauster is a remarkable late Iron Age and Romano-British settlement consisting of courtyard houses. Maintained by English Heritage today, it offers a glimpse into the rich history of this region. The gentlemen in the photograph exude an air of curiosity and admiration for their surroundings. One particularly stands out with his fashionable checked knickerbocker suit, showcasing his individuality even amidst such ancient ruins.
