EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, Princess Mary, the beloved and radiant daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, is seen disembarking at Calais in March 1922, marking the beginning of her honeymoon journey with her new husband, Viscount Lascelles, who would later become the 6th Earl of Harewood. The Princess, dressed in an elegant coat and hat, carries her trusty umbrella, a constant companion on her travels, as she gracefully descends the gangplank from the steamer Biarritz. The couple's romantic voyage across the English Channel to Paris and Italy had begun just weeks after their fairytale wedding on February 28, 1922. The smaller images in the photograph show the young couple, beaming with joy, enjoying their time on the deck of the steamer as they bid farewell to England and embarked on their marital adventure. The Princess's elegant attire, the tranquil waters of the English Channel, and the picturesque French harbor of Calais create a timeless and enchanting scene, transporting us back to a bygone era of royal elegance and romance. This photograph is a beautiful testament to the beginning of a lifelong partnership and the start of a new chapter in the lives of the future Earl and Countess of Harewood.
