EDITORS COMMENTS
This enchanting photograph captures the youthful beauty and grace of Princess Kyra of Russia (1909-1967), the second daughter of Grand Duke Kyrill Vladimirovich of Russia (1876-1938) and his wife, Princess Victoria Melita of Edinburgh (1876-1936). Born in 1909, Kyra was a member of the Russian Royal Family, making her a granddaughter of the famous Tsar Alexander II. The image, taken in 1914, shows Princess Kyra sitting at a folding table, surrounded by books and dressed in a charming, frilly dress. Her sweet expression and innocent gaze convey a sense of playfulness and curiosity. The presence of the table and books suggest that Kyra was an avid reader, a trait that was common among members of the Romanov family. The photograph offers a glimpse into the life of a young princess growing up in a royal family during a time of great change. Kyra's parents, Grand Duke Kyrill and Princess Victoria Melita, were exiled from Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution and lived in exile in France. Despite the challenges and hardships of their exile, the family managed to maintain a sense of normalcy and continuity, as evidenced by this charming photograph. Princess Kyra's early life was marked by tragedy, as she lost both her father and her grandfather, Tsar Nicholas II, in the Russian Revolution. She went on to marry Prince George William of Hanover in 1937 and had two children. Kyra passed away in 1967, leaving behind a rich legacy as a member of one of Europe's most famous royal families. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of her youthful beauty and the history of the Romanov dynasty.
