In this enchanting photograph, a young Princess Elizabeth, later to become Queen Elizabeth II, is seen embracing the simple joys of Girl Guiding at a camp site somewhere in Britain during the post-war year of 1946. The Princess, dressed in her Girl Guide uniform, exudes a sense of determination and excitement as she confidently navigates a small rowboat across a serene lake. The war may have recently ended, but the Princess' commitment to her Guiding duties remained unwavering. The Princess' connection to the Girl Guides began in 1937 when she joined the 1st Hitchin Guide Company in Hertfordshire. Her dedication to the organization continued throughout her life, and she went on to become the Chief Guide in 1952, a role she held until her coronation in 1953. This photograph captures a moment of respite from her royal duties, allowing us to see the Princess as a young girl, enjoying the outdoors and the camaraderie of her fellow Guides.
