The Prince of Wales (the future Edward VII) as the Grand Master of the Knights Hospitallers of Malta. He wore this costume to the Historical Costume Ball at Devonshire House, hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire in honour of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. The Ball was attended by about seven hundred royal and distinguished guests. Date: July 1897
