EDITORS COMMENTS
On a solemn and historic day at Deepdale, Preston North End Football Club (PNE) paid tribute to their fallen players during the SkyBet Championship match against Rotherham United on October 27,2018. As we commemorate the centenary of the Armistice, PNE invited 21 local school children to represent the former registers of players, reserves, and amateurs who lost their lives during The Great War. The children, dressed in period uniforms, formed a guard of honor as the teams took to the field, with a minute's silence observed before the kick-off. The poignant scene was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by these brave men, many of whom gave their lives for their country while also representing the pride and passion of Preston North End. The football club, which was founded in 1880, had a rich history intertwined with the community and the military. Many of its players served in the armed forces during the First World War, and this tradition continued throughout the decades. The tribute was a testament to the enduring bond between the club and its supporters, as well as the importance of remembering the past and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. As the match began, the children took their places around the pitch, each holding a photograph of a fallen player. The crowd, filled with a mix of emotions, watched as the game unfolded, with the memory of these brave men never far from their thoughts. The day was a poignant reminder of the human spirit, the power of community, and the enduring legacy of Preston North End Football Club.
