Among the distinguished young men gathered in the image is Denys Finch Hatton, the Honourable member seated second from right in the front row. Finch Hatton would later become renowned for his adventures in Africa as a big game hunter and the romantic interest in Karen Blixen's memoir, "Out of Africa." At the time of this photograph, however, Finch Hatton was a student at Brasenose College, Oxford, where he was an active member of the prestigious Phoenix Club. Known for its golfing prowess, the Phoenix Club was a popular social and athletic organization for students. Finch Hatton's golfing skills would no doubt have contributed to his standing within the club.
