Goulds Mouse Collection

Gould's Mouse (Pseudomys gouldii) is a species of Muridae mammal found in Australia, and is a small mouse, with a body length of up to 8 cm and a tail length of up to 10 cm. Its fur is grey-brown on the upperparts and white underneath, with some individuals having reddish-brown patches on their backs. Gould's Mouse lives in arid habitats such as grasslands, shrublands, and woodlands. It feeds mainly on seeds but also eats insects and other invertebrates. The breeding season for Gould's Mouse occurs during spring and summer when females give birth to litters of two to four young after a gestation period of 21 days. The species is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN due to its restricted range and potential threats from land clearing activities, predation by cats, foxes, and feral pigs, competition from introduced species such as house mice, habitat degradation due to grazing pressure from livestock or rabbits, climate change impacts such as drought or fire regimes that are too frequent or intense for the species' recovery capacity.
