The siege of Badajoz had been a grueling and protracted affair, with the British and their allies laying siege to the city for over a month. The defenders, largely composed of French and Spanish troops, had held out against repeated assaults, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers. However, the determination of Wellington and Picton to take the city was unwavering.
