The treaty was brokered between two formidable figures of the time: Philippe le Bon, Duke of Burgundy, and Charles VII, King of France. Philippe le Bon, a powerful ruler in his own right, had been a significant player in the conflict, using his military might to expand his territories at the expense of the French crown. Charles VII, on the other hand, had been struggling to assert his authority over the fractious nobility and maintain control of his kingdom.
