EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative image captures the transformative moment of Saint Paul of Tarsus, also known as Saul, on the road to Damascus. Circa 3-65 AD, Saul, a zealous Pharisee and persecutor of early Christians, was on a mission to Damascus to arrest and bring back to Jerusalem any followers of the new faith he could find. However, as he journeyed, an extraordinary event unfolded that would forever change the course of his life. As Saul approached the city, a brilliant light from heaven suddenly enveloped him. A voice spoke from the heavens, asking, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" The voice identified itself as that of Jesus Christ. Struck blind and overwhelmed, Saul was left in a state of confusion and fear. Three days later, as Saul traveled to Damascus, a man named Ananias visited him and restored his sight. Ananias shared with Saul that he had been chosen by God to be a messenger and servant to the Gentiles, spreading the message of love, forgiveness, and salvation through Jesus Christ. From this pivotal moment on, Saul became Paul, a tireless apostle and missionary, spreading the teachings of Christianity throughout the Mediterranean world. This powerful visionary experience on the road to Damascus marked the beginning of Paul's conversion and his enduring legacy as one of the most influential figures in Christian history.
