Os Cypras, also known as Sir Edward Henry Stanley Harcourt-Holles, 11th Baronet and 4th Baron Houghton (1827-1891), is depicted in this photograph looking southward, likely during his exploration of the African continent in 1868. Os Cypras was a prominent member of the Royal Geographical Society and a close associate of Sir Roderick Murchison, President of the Society, and Sir Reginald Poole, who was then the British Consul in Zanzibar.
