Ordu - Turkey

Ordu - a port on the Black Sea Coast of Turkey. " Ordu" means army in the Turkish language (and the word has come down in modern English as the word horde ). The name may have been given because in the 15th century the city was a headquarters of the Ottoman Empire army, or alternatively the name may be a derivation from the earlier Greek name Kotyora. Main centre for the production of hazelnuts in Turkey

Head Quarters Ordu Ottoman

EDITORS COMMENTS
Ordu, a captivating coastal city located on the Black Sea in Turkey, is steeped in history and natural beauty. The name "Ordu," meaning "army" in Turkish, may have been derived from its role as a headquarters for the Ottoman Empire's military forces in the 15th century. Alternatively, it may be a derivation of the earlier Greek name, Kotyora. Nestled amidst lush greenery and picturesque landscapes, Ordu is the main center for the production of hazelnuts in Turkey. The fertile soil and favorable climate make it an ideal location for growing these precious nuts, which are renowned for their rich taste and health benefits. The city's historical significance is evident in its architectural wonders, including the magnificent Ordu Castle, which stands proudly on a hill overlooking the sea. This imposing structure, built in the 15th century, served as a strategic stronghold for the Ottoman Empire and is a testament to the region's rich history. Ordu's location on the Black Sea coast has made it an important port city throughout history. Ships laden with goods from far-off lands have docked at its shores, bringing new cultures, ideas, and influences to the region. Today, Ordu continues to be a vibrant and bustling city, where the past and present blend seamlessly together. As you gaze upon this enchanting scene, you can almost hear the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore, feel the cool sea breeze on your face, and smell the aroma of fresh hazelnuts wafting through the air. Ordu, a true gem of Turkey, invites you to explore its rich history, natural beauty, and warm hospitality.
