"This evocative image captures Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), the legendary English nurse, as she makes her rounds at the Scutari Barrack Hospital during the Crimean War in 1855. Dressed in her distinctive white uniform and cap, Nightingale carries a steaming cup of tea, a small comfort she offered to wounded soldiers to help ease their pain and improve their morale. The hospital, located in Scutari, Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey), was a makeshift medical facility established to care for the thousands of British and allied soldiers injured during the war.
