Nellie Melba, born Helen Porter Mitchell in Richmond, Victoria, Australia in 1861, was a renowned Australian soprano who achieved international fame during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Melba's exceptional vocal abilities and captivating stage presence earned her the nickname "The Melba," which became synonymous with excellence in the world of opera and concert music. This evocative photograph captures a profile view of Melba, taken in 1931, as she posed for a cig card.
