EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning LNER poster from 1923-1947, created by the talented artist Tom Purvis. The poster was specifically designed to promote rail travel to the picturesque region of Yorkshire in England. With its vibrant colors and breathtaking scenery, this artwork truly captures the essence of Yorkshire's countryside. Tom Purvis, an advocate for professionalizing commercial art, played a significant role in shaping the industry during his time. In 1930, he co-founded the Society of Industrial Artists, which aimed to enhance training standards for commercial artists and expand their employment opportunities. His dedication and passion led him to become one of the first Royal Designers for Industry in 1936. The poster itself transports viewers into a world filled with rolling hills and idyllic dales that epitomize Yorkshire's natural beauty. It serves as a visual invitation for travelers to explore this enchanting region through LNER railway services. Preserved by the National Railway Museum's Pictorial Collection, this print allows us to appreciate not only Purvis' artistic prowess but also his contribution towards promoting rail travel as an experience worth cherishing. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece of history, we are reminded of both Yorkshire's timeless allure and the transformative power of art in capturing our imagination.
