'York - Local Government Centenary', LNER poster, 1935

Poster produced for London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to York, Yorkshire. The poster shows a procession of the city's aldermen and other officials outside of the York Minster to commemorate the centenary of the city's local government in 1935. Artwork by Fred Taylor, who was commissioned in 1930 to design four ceiling paintings for the Underwriting Room at Lloyd's and murals for Reed's Lacquer Room. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and other London galleries and worked for the Empire Marketing Board, LNER, London Transport and several shipping companies

'York', BR poster, 1950s

Poster produced for British Railways (BR) to promote rail travel to the city of York, Yorkshire. The poster shows a street lined with shops and houses with York Minster visible in the background. Artwork by Claude Buckle (1905-1973), who originally trained as an architect, but later turned to pictorial art. He painted in both oil and watercolour and was a prolific poster artist for Great Western Railway (GWR) and BR. Much of his original poster artwork is held at the National Railway Museum

'York Minster', LNER poster, 1930

Poster produced for London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to York, Yorkshire. The poster shows an interior view of York Minster, which was built between the 12th and 15th centuries and is the largest Gothic cathedral north of the Alps. It contains the world's largest medieval stained glass window. Artwork by Fred Taylor, who was commissioned in 1930 to design four ceiling paintings for the Underwriting Room at Lloyd's and murals for Reed's Lacquer Room. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and other London galleries and worked for the Empire Marketing Board, LNER, London Transport and several shipping companies
