York - Local Government Centenary, LNER poster, 1935

Poster produced for London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to York, Yorkshire. The poster shows a procession of the city's aldermen and other officials outside of the York Minster to commemorate the centenary of the city's local government in 1935. Artwork by Fred Taylor, who was commissioned in 1930 to design four ceiling paintings for the Underwriting Room at Lloyd's and murals for Reed's Lacquer Room. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and other London galleries and worked for the Empire Marketing Board, LNER, London Transport and several shipping companies

Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), issued for display in Belgium, showing King's Manor in York, with the Minster in the background. Originally the Abbot's House of St Mary's Abbey, King's Manor later became a seat of government for the Tudors and Stuarts, becoming the official residence of the President of the Council of the North in 1561. King's Manor went on to become a school for the blind in the 1830s, and by the 1960s was part of York University. Artwork by Fred Taylor (1975-1963)

Poster produced for London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to York, Yorkshire. The poster shows an interior view of York Minster, which was built between the 12th and 15th centuries and is the largest Gothic cathedral north of the Alps. It contains the world's largest medieval stained glass window.
