In the early morning two Indian potters are working outside preparing pots for a traditional firing. They are surrounded by pots in various stages of firing and a kiln. This image is taken from 'Village, The - A Village in Tanjore': A day in the lives of the people who live in the village of Thillaisthanam, Southern India, with a population of 1500. This village is the one examined thoroughly in the book 'Cast, Class and Power' by Dr Andre Beteille. 'Village, The - A Village in Tanjore' is part of the series 'Our Asian Neighbours - India' 1977, that takes a personal look at the lives of a variety of individuals in India

It is located on Adelaide Street, Birdsville and is heritage listed, although it is now a tourist attraction due to its ruined state
