German merchant Adolf Luderitz established a trading post here in 1883, leading to the eventual founding of the town of Luderitz in 1892. The boats, with their distinctive sails and rigging, are reminiscent of the intrepid explorers and traders who braved the treacherous waters to reach this isolated outpost.
