This intriguing photograph captures the eccentricity of John Mytton, the 13th Baronet of Frankley in Worcestershire, England, in the 1820s. Known for his bizarre and ludicrous behavior, Mytton is depicted in this image sitting under a horse's rump, holding onto its hind legs. The other horses in the stable seem perturbed by the unusual scene, their ears pricked and eyes fixed on the eccentric man. Born in 1796, Mytton was a wealthy English nobleman who gained notoriety for his unconventional behavior. He was known to ride horses without a saddle or a bridle, and would often hold races with his friends, with the loser having to pay for the winner's dinner. Mytton's eccentricities extended beyond horses, as he was also known to wear a suit of armor to dinner parties and to carry a loaded pistol to church. Despite his ludicrous antics, Mytton was well-liked by the people of Apperley, the village where he lived. They saw him as a harmless eccentric, and his behavior added a touch of absurdity to their otherwise mundane lives.
