Ann Periam of Exmouth, aged 93. Her husband, Edward Hopping, was a seaman on board HMS Crescent and she witnessed many minor engagements whilst with him on the ship (at L Orient on the 23rd June 1795, , off Cape St. Vincent on 14th February 1797 and at the glorious battle of the Nile, won by Nelson on 1st August 1798). Whilst on HMS Crescent she worked preparing flannel cartridges for the great guns

This print captures the remarkable Mrs. Ann Perriam, also known as Ann Periam of Exmouth, at the age of 93. A woman with a rich history intertwined with the sea, she was married to Edward Hopping, a seaman on board HMS Crescent. Together, they experienced numerous minor engagements during their time on the ship - from being present at L'Orient on June 23rd, 1795 to witnessing the glorious Battle of the Nile led by Admiral Nelson on August 1st, 1798. Despite her advanced age, Mrs. Perriam remained actively involved in naval affairs while aboard HMS Crescent by diligently preparing flannel cartridges for the great guns.
