Her husband, Edward Hopping, was a seaman on board HMS Crescent and she witnessed many minor engagements whilst with him on the ship (at L Orient on the 23rd June 1795, , off Cape St. Vincent on 14th February 1797 and at the glorious battle of the Nile, won by Nelson on 1st August 1798). Whilst on HMS Crescent she worked preparing flannel cartridges for the great guns
