EDITORS COMMENTS

In this photograph from 1955, Mr C. J. Collishaw, the RAC Training Organiser, is seen passionately explaining the intricate controls of a Vespa scooter to an esteemed group of individuals. The occasion was none other than the presentation of this sleek two-wheeler by Douglas Sale and Service Ltd. to the Cardiff Eagle Club. The purpose behind this generous gesture was to provide a valuable asset for the joint training scheme initiated by both the RAC and Auto Cycle Union. This program aimed at nurturing learner motorcyclists in their quest for knowledge and expertise on road safety. Engrossed in Mr Collishaw's detailed explanation are Mr O. J. Kingsman, Cardiff Road Safety Officer; Supt. Andrews of Mobile Division; Chief Constable Mr W. Thomas; and PC C. T Pennington seated atop his trusty cycle. This snapshot takes us back to an era when law enforcement agencies were actively involved in promoting safe driving practices among citizens. It serves as a reminder that even decades ago, efforts were made to ensure that aspiring motorcyclists received proper guidance before venturing out onto roads.
