EDITORS COMMENTS
An Unforgettable Lesson on the Goodwin Sands: In 1969, over 200 curious schoolchildren from Wood Green School embarked on an extraordinary educational journey. Venturing across the waters from Dover in a Hovercraft, they arrived at the enigmatic Goodwin Sands to experience a truly unique classroom setting. As their feet touched the sandy banks, excitement filled the air as these young minds transformed this natural wonder into their temporary school grounds. Captured in this timeless photograph is Mr T L Howson, the dedicated Physics Master of Wood Green School, surrounded by his eager pupils. With a blackboard carefully set up against this picturesque backdrop, lessons commenced amidst laughter and awe-inspiring views. This remarkable sight epitomizes both innovation and adventure in education during that era. For approximately 25 minutes, these fortunate students absorbed knowledge while embracing nature's beauty firsthand. The Goodwin Sands became more than just sandbanks; they were living laboratories where scientific principles came alive before their eyes. This image by Dixie Dean serves as a testament to the power of experiential learning and showcases how educators like Mr Howson went above and beyond to ignite curiosity within their students' hearts. It stands as a reminder that education knows no boundaries – not even those formed by land or sea.
