Aerial view of the devastation caused following the attack by Royal Air Force No. 617 Squadron (subsequently publicised as the " Dam Busters" ) on the Mohne and Eder Dams in the Ruhr Valley, Germany, using a specially developed " bouncing bomb" invented and developed by Barnes Wallis.
The raids were carried out on the night of 16th Ð17th May 1943 and caused causing catastrophic flooding of the Ruhr valley and of villages in the Eder valley.
This picture shows the village of Affoldern near Bad Wildungen completeley surrounded by flood water. The Power station has been destroyed.
