Looking not exactly rugged at the start of a two-mile charity pub-crawl are Mr Gary
Looking not exactly rugged at the start of a two-mile charity pub-crawl are Mr Gary Connor (centre, in tiger skin) and his colleagues. Mr Connor, manager of Newsome Carpets, followed up his carpet-carrying marathon, which last year raised £ 500 for the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary special care baby unit with a rug-crawl round 10 pubs in Crosland Moor and Milnsbridge. This years event is expected to raise £ 1, 000. A group of 45, including colleagues of Mr Connor from the carpet trade and the Ivy House football team, carried the rugs along a two-mile circuit between the villages, collecting £ 50 in pubs along the way. The rugs were auctioned the following day, together with two football autographed by the stars of the Huddersfield Town and Everton. 10th November 1985

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from 1985, we see Mr Gary Connor and his colleagues embarking on a two-mile charity pub-crawl that promises to be anything but ordinary. As the image suggests, Mr Connor is far from looking rugged at the start of their adventurous journey, donning a tiger skin costume that adds an element of whimsy to the occasion. Mr Connor, who manages Newsome Carpets, has already proven his dedication to charitable causes through his carpet-carrying marathon last year. This time around, he aims to surpass his previous fundraising efforts by organizing a rug-crawl round ten pubs in Crosland Moor and Milnsbridge. With an impressive group of 45 participants including fellow carpet trade workers and members of the Ivy House football team, they set out on their mission carrying rugs along a picturesque two-mile circuit between villages. Their efforts are not in vain as they manage to collect £50 in donations from generous patrons along the way. The following day sees these unique rugs being auctioned off alongside autographed footballs from Huddersfield Town and Everton stars. It is anticipated that this year's event will raise an impressive £1,000 for charity. This heartwarming snapshot captures both the spirit of camaraderie among colleagues and friends as well as their commitment to making a positive impact within their community.
