EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, Countryside Volunteer Rangers Duggs Carre and Angie Boycott-Garnett are seen leading a group of enthusiastic youngsters on an earth walk at tunnel end in Marsden. The children's faces light up with excitement as they explore the wonders of nature under the guidance of these dedicated rangers. Following their adventure-filled walk, everyone gathers for a family pantomime titled "The Wild Man of the Woods". This enchanting tale revolves around sacred, scary, and special woods that can only be saved from destruction by none other than the wild man himself. The free performance is brought to life by the talented Jack Drum Arts & Entertainment Group from County Durham. Organized jointly by Kirklees Countryside and Cultural Services, this afternoon event aims to bring families closer to nature while providing entertainment and education. As laughter fills the air during games and walks, it becomes evident that this gathering is not just about fun but also about fostering a deep appreciation for our natural surroundings. This heartwarming snapshot captures a moment in time when children were encouraged to embrace outdoor leisure activities instead of being glued to screens. It serves as a reminder of simpler times when community engagement was cherished and shared experiences created lasting memories. Preserved within Huddersfield Examiner Archive's Memory Lane Prints collection, this image transports us back to 31st August 1991—a nostalgic journey into all our yesterdays where innocence thrived amidst the beauty of countryside capers.
