EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from the 1950s, we are transported back to a time when young boys took pride in their scout duties. The image showcases three scouts engaged in the timeless tradition of "Bob a Job" - Dennis Hunter, aged 12, Ronald Dury, aged 12, and his twin brother Raymond. With brushes and polish in hand, they set up shop on Kingsway in London to raise funds for their cause. The industrious trio had an incredibly successful morning shift, earning £1,12s. 3d. , and continued their profitable streak by collecting an additional 19/6d. during the first two hours of their afternoon duty. Their dedication to raising money for their scout troop is truly commendable. Adding a touch of charm to this scene is the presence of the youngest Dury sibling, Eric, aged just two years old. It seems that even at such a tender age he wanted to be part of his brothers' noble endeavor. This photograph captures not only the spirit of youthful enthusiasm but also provides us with glimpses into fashion trends and daily life in inner boroughs of London during this era. The determination and camaraderie displayed by these young scouts serve as a reminder that even small acts can make a significant impact on one's community.
