Two new primary schools in the city opened their doors to excited Coventry youngsters

Two new primary schools in the city opened their doors to excited Coventry youngsters today. Holbrook Junior and Infant School welcomed pupils into its new £ 2.5 million premises in Lythalls Lane. And youngsters at the new Frederick Bird School in Swan Lane released a special white ribbon to mark the official opening of the building. Both schools delayed the start of their new term so that teachers could unpack boxes in the new premises. One pupil at Freddies, Steven O Donoghue, five, called his new school a palace. And his mum Janet, of Newland Road, Foleshill, said that Steven had been very excited about starting at the school. And Belinda Richards, whose daughter Tonia, five, attends Frederick Bird said: " Shes been looking forward to it. She couldn t wait to come back." The new £ 2.4 million school has been built behind the old school in Swan Lane. It is a bright open-plan building, decorated in sky blue colour and pine panelling. Pamela Goodhew, head of the infants, said: " We have all worked very hard, and we are all very excited and looking forward to working in our new school." Richard Kent, head of the juniors said that work on the staff car park and the main entrance to the school grounds should be completed by November. He said: " Its really nice to be in the school after all the work which has gone on." The start of the new term went smoothly at Holbrook school too. Last week part of the old school in Holbrook Lane was demolished by fire as teachers moved books and equipment to their new home. The new school has been built on the site of the former Dunlop sports ground in Lythalls Lane.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Excitement fills the air as two new primary schools in Coventry open their doors to eager youngsters. Holbrook Junior and Infant School, with its impressive £2.5 million premises on Lythalls Lane, welcomes students for the first time. Meanwhile, Frederick Bird School in Swan Lane celebrates its official opening by releasing a special white ribbon into the sky. Both schools delayed the start of term so that teachers could settle into their new surroundings. Steven O'Donoghue, a five-year-old pupil at Frederick Bird School, describes his new school as a palace while his mother Janet expresses his excitement about starting there. Belinda Richards shares her daughter Tonia's anticipation for attending Frederick Bird School. The £2.4 million building is located behind the old school and boasts an open-plan design adorned with sky blue color and pine panelling. Pamela Goodhew, head of infants at Frederick Bird School, commends everyone's hard work and looks forward to working in this new environment. At Holbrook school, despite last week's fire that demolished part of the old building on Holbrook Lane during equipment relocation to their current location on Lythalls Lane - formerly Dunlop sports ground - everything runs smoothly. In our captivating photograph captured by Wes Howard from Memory Lane Prints, headteacher Pamela Goodhew rings the bell while pupils eagerly untie the ribbon during Frederick Bird School's grand opening ceremony.
