A dozen competitiors braved the strong winds to take part in Leamington
A dozen competitiors braved the strong winds to take part in Leamingtons first Shrove Tuesday pancake race. The winner, Mrs. Joan Merrick, of Stockton Road, Long Itchington, ran the 100 yard course in just over 18 seconds. She was presented with a 60 gas cooker but she has no gas supply at her home so will give the cooker to her father. Second over the finishing line was the youngest entrant, 13-year-old Veronica Relins, who was able to take part because Blackdown High School in Leamington is partially closed because of the fuel shortage. Veronica was presented with a food hamper.
Our photograph shows Mrs Joan Merrick winning the pancake race. Close behind her is Veronica Relins.
