Bernard Bresslaw 1959 with Vera Day
Pop-eyed comic actor Bernard Bresslaw appropriately played " Popeye" a dimbulbed british private in the comedy series " The Army Game" (1957-62). This led to revitalization of a film career that had begun somewhat ignominously in 1954s " Men of Sherwood Forest". Bresslaw was starred in the tacky but undoubtedly funny film farce " I Only Arsked" (1958) and provided comic support in such films as " Too Many Crooks" (1959). He became a member of the lunatic " Carry On" ensemble in 14 films like " Carry On Cowboy" (1965) etc... He also showed up briefly plying his laugh grabbing trade in Disneys " One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing" (1975) and the Monty Pythonesque " Jabberwocky" (1979).
Vera Day - Born 1939- England, worked in films throughout the fifties and sixties. Her most famous film was " Quatermass 2" - a sci-fi film about an alien invasion - sublimally a cruel satire of British bureaucracy and obfuscation. However, the film works best on a pure horror level. Brian Donlevy played Professor Quatermass. She also appeared in the film " The Prince and The Showgirl." which starred Laurence Olivier and Marylin Monroe

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic moment when Bernard Bresslaw, the pop-eyed comic actor, poses alongside the stunning Vera Day in 1959. Known for his hilarious portrayal of dim-witted characters, Bresslaw gained fame through his role as "Popeye" in the comedy series "The Army Game". This breakthrough led to a successful film career revival after starting off modestly with "Men of Sherwood Forest" in 1954. Bresslaw's talent shone brightly in comedic gems like "I Only Arsked" (1958) and as a supporting actor in films such as "Too Many Crooks" (1959). He became an integral member of the uproarious "Carry On" ensemble, starring in 14 films including the rib-tickling western spoof, "Carry On Cowboy" (1965). His infectious laughter also graced Disney's whimsical adventure "One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing" (1975) and Terry Gilliam's Monty Python-inspired masterpiece, "Jabberwocky" (1979). Beside him stands Vera Day, born in England in 1939. Throughout the fifties and sixties, she made her mark on cinema screens with her enchanting presence. One of her most notable roles was in the sci-fi thriller "Quatermass 2" which cleverly satirized British bureaucracy while delivering spine-chilling horror. Starring alongside Brian Donlevy as Professor Quatermass showcased Day's versatility. She also graced audiences with her charm and beauty opposite Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe in their collaboration titled"The Prince and The Showgirl". This timeless print is a nostalgic reminder of two talented individuals who left an indelible mark on British entertainment history.
