Sir Alan Cobhams Short S.5 Singapore 1 flying boat left the River Hamble near Southampton on 20 November 1927 for an African Survey Flight in which he routed via Bordeaux, Marseilles and Ajaccio to Malta then via Entebbe and the east coast of Africa arriving in Cape Town at the end of March 1928. His wife and two crew accompanied Cobham and they continued on the 3 April, via the west coast of Africa, eventually arriving in Plymouth on 31 May 1928.
