Five Star Hotel. The Fishguard Bay Hotel has been taken over by the film company making " Moby Dick". The hotel has been closed for the past two years, and has been entirely re-furnished including new bathroom fittings, new bedroom suites, fitted carpets, etc. at a cost of £ 15, 000. All the star of the film, including 125 film technicians, carpenters, stunt men and the crew of the boat " Pequod" are living as one big happy family. Everybody mixes quite freely and it is quite a common sight to see Gregory Peck and the stars having a drink in their newly opened bar along with carpenters and electricians. The film will be most expensive ever made in this country, and the estimated cost is around one million pounds. Picture taken in the bar of the Fishguard Bay Hotel shows, left to right: Noel Purcell (star) Richard Basehart (star) Johnny " King" Kelly (stunt man) John Huston (director) Jack Martin (assistant director) Len Prout (electrician) Jack Culver (cameraman) Leo Genn (star) Len Garde (make-up) and Gregory Peck. Serving at the bar is George Higgins, still cameraman, taking his turn as barman. August 1954 P09281

Five Star Hotel Transformed - Fishguard Bay Hotel Welcomes Film Crew of 'Moby Dick'
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness the remarkable transformation of Fishguard Bay Hotel as it becomes the backdrop for the highly anticipated film "Moby Dick". After being closed for two years, the hotel has undergone an extravagant refurbishment worth £15,000. The new fittings and furnishings, including luxurious bathroom fixtures, stylish bedroom suites, and plush fitted carpets have breathed new life into this once dormant establishment. The hotel now buzzes with activity as 125 film technicians, carpenters, stuntmen, and crew members of the boat "Pequod" make themselves at home. What's truly extraordinary is how seamlessly these stars blend in with their colleagues from various trades. It's not uncommon to spot Gregory Peck and other renowned actors enjoying a drink alongside hardworking carpenters and electricians in their newly opened bar. This ambitious production is set to become one of the most expensive films ever made in our country with an estimated cost exceeding one million pounds. Captured within this image are some key figures involved in bringing Herman Melville's epic tale to life – Noel Purcell and Leo Genn among them – along with director John Huston himself. As George Higgins takes his turn behind the bar serving drinks while still capturing moments on camera, there is a palpable sense of camaraderie amongst all those present. This photograph serves as a testament to both the grandeur of filmmaking and the power it holds to unite individuals from diverse backgrounds under one shared vision.
