Dogs occasionally mistake men for lamposts. Most annoying but there
Dogs occasionally mistake men for lamposts. Most annoying but theres justice in this world. For monkeys, as you can see here, occasionally mistake dogs for trees - and start climbing all over them. Thats a real bore for Prince, a two-year-old Great Dane. Normally hes a guard dog at Twycross Zoo, Leicester. Very dignified and commanding. But since Wimpy, a black gibbon, was born at the zoo eight months ago, not even the most guard-dog like attitudes have been able to convince him Prince is anything but a lovely furry tree to be climbed on swung on ridden on and generally enjoyed. Well, thats what trees are for, aren t they? If you re a young gibbon. August 1966 P011733

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this delightful print from August 1966, we witness an unexpected case of mistaken identity in the animal kingdom. Dogs may occasionally mistake men for lamposts, causing annoyance to both parties involved. However, as they say, there is justice in this world. For monkeys, like the mischievous Wimpy here, sometimes mistake dogs for trees! Meet Prince, a dignified and commanding two-year-old Great Dane who serves as a guard dog at Twycross Zoo in Leicester. Normally revered for his protective nature, Prince finds himself facing an unusual challenge since the arrival of Wimpy - a playful black gibbon born eight months ago. As captured in this heartwarming image, Wimpy sees no boundaries when it comes to climbing and exploring his surroundings. To him, even majestic creatures like Prince are nothing more than lovely furry trees waiting to be climbed on and enjoyed. Despite Prince's best efforts to maintain his guard-dog demeanor, he cannot resist the innocent charm of his primate friend. With facial expressions that speak volumes about their unique friendship and undeniable humor found within their interactions. This photograph reminds us that unlikely friendships can blossom anywhere - even between species with stark differences. It showcases the beauty of animal companionship and brings smiles to our faces as we appreciate these adorable moments frozen in time during the swinging sixties!
