Born on March 13, 1834, in London, England, Fanny was the eldest daughter of the 6th Earl Cowper and Lady Elizabeth Sackville-West. She married Thomas Jocelyn, 12th Earl of Roden, on May 14, 1856, and became Viscountess Jocelyn upon her husband's elevation to the peerage in 1861. The elegant Viscountess is depicted here in a formal portrait, wearing a high-necked, long-sleeved gown with a fitted bodice and a voluminous skirt.
