This stunning watercolor artwork by the renowned Dutch naturalist artist JG Keulemans, featured in Sir Walter Lawry Buller's "A History of the Birds of New Zealand," Vol.1, Plate 16, dates back to 1888. The illustration showcases three beautiful and distinct species of Cyanoramphus parakeets, native to New Zealand. At the center, the Yellow-crowned Parakeet or Kakariki (Cyanoramphus auriceps) is easily identified by its vibrant yellow feathers on the crown and nape. The Red-crowned Parakeet or Kakariki (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae), on the left, displays a bold red crown and nape, with green feathers covering the rest of its body.
