EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative photograph, the SEPECAT Jaguar GR.3A XX752 (msn S.49) of the Royal Air Force's No.16 Squadron is seen taxying at RAF Cottesmore in preparation for the Royal International Air Tattoo in July 2000. The Jaguar GR.3, a twin-engine, multi-role combat aircraft, was a product of the SEPECAT (Société Européenne de Production de Constructions Aéronautiques de Turboréacteurs) partnership between France and the United Kingdom. The Jaguar GR.3, with its distinctive delta wing and variable sweep capabilities, was a versatile aircraft that could perform a range of roles, including reconnaissance, ground attack, and air defense interception. In this image, the aircraft wears the distinctive markings of No.16 Squadron, which was formed in 1913 and has a long and proud history in the Royal Air Force. The Royal International Air Tattoo is an annual air show held at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England, and is considered one of the largest military airshows in the world. The event attracts aviation enthusiasts from around the globe, who come to see a diverse range of military and civilian aircraft in action. In this photograph, the Jaguar GR.3 of No.16 Squadron is getting ready to take to the skies and showcase its capabilities to the thousands of spectators who had gathered at RAF Cottesmore for the event. The Jaguar GR.3 remained in service with the Royal Air Force until 2007, when it was replaced by the Typhoon. This photograph captures a moment in time when this iconic aircraft was still a regular sight at air shows and bases across the United Kingdom. The image is a testament to the enduring appeal of military aviation and the role it plays in shaping our history and inspiring future generations.
