EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Hawker Siddeley Dominie T.1 XS711 (msn 25024) of No. 55(R) Squadron, gracefully displayed at the Royal International Air Tattoo held at RAF Fairford on the 17th of July in the year 2004. The Dominie T.1, a versatile and agile jet, was a significant addition to the Royal Air Force's fleet, serving primarily as an Airborne Electronic Warfare (AEW) and communications training platform. Manufactured by Hawker Siddeley, a renowned British aerospace company, the Dominie T.1 was an evolution of the Jetstream T.3, featuring advanced avionics and improved performance. XS711, with its distinctive red and grey camouflage livery, was one of the last Dominie T.1s to serve in the RAF. Prior to its service with the RAF, XS711 operated under the Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE) at West Freugh, Scotland, where it was used for test and evaluation purposes. It was later assigned to No. 55(R) Squadron in 1997, based at RAF Lossiemouth, and served until its retirement from the RAF in 2005. The Royal International Air Tattoo, held annually at RAF Fairford, is a world-renowned airshow that attracts aviation enthusiasts from around the globe. The event showcases a diverse range of aircraft, both military and civilian, and provides an unparalleled opportunity to witness the latest advancements in aviation technology. This photograph captures the essence of the event, with the Dominie T.1 proudly representing the rich history and innovation of the Royal Air Force.
