The photograph features four of the six men - James Loveless, George Loveless, Thomas Standfield, and James Hammett - who were arrested and transported to Australia for their activism. The Tolpuddle Martyrs, also known as the "six shilling men," were protesting against the harsh working conditions and low wages imposed upon them by their employers.
