During the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), Lally played a pivotal role in defending French territories against the British. In 1758, he was appointed as the Governor of French Louisiana and commander of its military forces. Despite facing significant challenges, including limited resources and a vastly outnumbered army, Lally managed to repel several British attacks, most notably at the Battle of Fort Carillon (present-day Ticonderoga). This victory earned Lally the title of "The Hero of the New World." However, his tenure in Louisiana was not without controversy. Lally's harsh treatment of the local population and his extravagant lifestyle led to growing discontent among the colonists. In 1760, the British, under the command of General James Wolfe, launched a successful assault on Montreal, effectively ending French rule in Canada.
